Tommie Joe Sharpe, 76, of Youngstown, Ohio, departed this life on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Mr. Sharpe was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 7, 1950, to Joe Sanford Sharpe and Tomie Lee Jackson. He moved to Ohio in 1971 where he made his home. He served in the Marine Corps and attended the New Castle School of Trades, where he became a certified MIG welder. He worked in the steel industry for the majority of his adult life until retiring from V & M Star Steel in 2015. He was an avid fisherman, loved his Pittsburgh Steelers, the Motown sound, and, most of all, his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Glenda Sharpe of Youngstown, Ohio, Alice Gary of Texas, Felton Trammell of Oklahoma, Le Esther Major, Ella Major, and Faye White of Detroit, Michigan; his son, Derrick Meyers of Detroit, Michigan; his daughters, Tonya Sharpe of Columbus, Ohio, Teresa Sharpe-Gayles (David) of Youngstown, Ohio, Tamara Sharpe (Eddie Jason) of Columbus, Ohio, and Devon Townsend of Detroit, Michigan; granddaughter Chiana Sharpe, whom he reared; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Fleeton Sharpe; Gwen Sharpe; father-in-law J.D. Fleetion; grandson Tequon Sharpe; sisters Bessie Fisher, Theresa Major, Jean Major, and Cheryl Trammell; brother Earl Jackson; brother-in-law Mose Fleetion; nephews Kenneth Campbell and Cameo Sharpe; and great-nephew Jaykwon Sharpe.

He never said “Hi” when he entered your home. Instead, he would say, “I’m coming in, I’m not breaking in.” And he never said goodbye, but rather, “I’ll catch you on the flip flop.” You loved us so in life, and we will continue to love you in your final resting place.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Homegoing Celebration at 3:00 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2003 Wilson Ave., Youngstown, Ohio.
