Toshchel Monee’ Demus, 31, peacefully transitioned from this earthly body into the spirit of the Lord on May 15, 2026, following a lengthy illness.
Born on October 20, 1994, Toshchel was the beloved daughter of Eric Demus and Michelle Miniefield. From an early age, she carried a vibrant spirit, a compassionate heart, and a personality that could light up any room she entered.
Toshchel was a proud 2013 graduate of Steubenville High School “Big Red.” She later attended Cleveland State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2018. Passionate about helping others heal and grow, she established her own counseling business, Rooted in Royalty, where she poured encouragement, wisdom, and inspiration into the lives of those she encountered.
A woman deeply rooted in faith, Toshchel attended Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in Bible study groups while uplifting others spiritually. Inspired by the ministry of Transformation Church and Pastor Michael Todd, one of her proudest moments was taking her first solo flight to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to attend the church’s annual Mega gathering.
Toshchel was also an accomplished author and poet who found peace and purpose through writing. She authored the written work Prolific Poiema’ and the audio project Spiritual Warfare. Even while battling illness, Toshchel continued writing and working toward publishing another book. She dedicated time to teaching children from preschool through middle school, including children with special needs. Her patience, warmth, and nurturing spirit made her a natural mentor and source of comfort to many young lives. She enjoyed public speaking, pouring into the youth with encouraging words, wisdom, and scripture, and assisting with the Ja’Quan Lavender Foundation in its mission to inspire youth, uplift the community, and help others reach their goals and dreams.
She lived boldly and joyfully, never afraid to be herself. Toshchel loved traveling, singing loudly and unapologetically, spending time with family, and creating unforgettable memories with those she loved. Her laughter and spirit were unforgettable to those fortunate enough to know her. She participated in numerous activities throughout her school years, including track, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, and band. During her senior year, she was honored as a member of the Homecoming Court.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, John Snider; her aunt, Fena Creech; and her uncles, Jerry G. Jeter, Perry Jeter, Clyde Demus, and Rev. Donald Creech.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her parents, Eric (Denise) Demus and Michelle Miniefield; her siblings, Erica Demus, Royce J. Brown, Shelly Demus, Dejsha Demus, Aliyah Demus, Alayah Demus, Romani Wilks, and Josh (Payton) Demus; her grandmothers, Emma Turner and Elizabeth Miniefield; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many beloved friends, including her cherished friends Chelsey, Cierra, Jessica, Queen, Quinchaya, and Awtihana.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Life Celebration service at 12 Noon at Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church, 708 North 5th Street, Steubenville, Ohio. Pastor Benjamin L. Calvert II will deliver the eulogy.
Though Toshchel is no longer with us in body, her love, laughter, faith, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Forget her not, for her light and legacy will continue to blossom through every life she touched.
