Obituary

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, Reverend Willie F. Stinson, 82, was called home to be with his Lord. Rev. Willie F. Stinson the eldest son of the late Will C. and Katie Frazier Stinson was born in Enterprise, Alabama and reared in Steubenville, Ohio.

He attended and completed his academic studies in the public school system of Steubenville "Big Red- Roll Red Roll; where he excelled in both football and baseball. Additionally, he continued his football Career with the Semi-pro team "Wheeling Ironmen". He was one of Cleveland Brown's biggest fans from an early age despite other local teams. He graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon; and the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Connecticut. He also earned a Bachelor's Degree in theology from Trinity College of Bible in Newburgh, Indiana. Rev. Stinson committed his life to Christ at the tender age of 12. He was licensed to preach the gospel of Christ in June 1986 and ordained a Minister in June 1987. He has served as Assistant Pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in Washington, PA and New Zion Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, PA. He also served as the Pastor at First Baptist Church in Marianna, PA.

Through his professional career, he worked at the Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts in New York, New York as an Executive Chef. He was an instructor and Regional Director for the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York; where he was responsible for the chef's apprenticeship program for the East Seaboard. He also served as an executive chef at Lone Pine Country Club in Washington, Pa. Rev. Stinson also established the Chef Apprentice Program at the CCAC, in Pittsburgh PA until his retirement to full-time Pastor.

He was proud of the fact that his ministry had two Spiritual fathers, Rev. Walter Turner and Rev. Dr. Jesse V. Bottoms, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, New York.

26 years ago Rev. Stinson preached the initial sermon at The Agape Baptist Church, as Founder and Pastor, appropriately titled…"The Love of God" (John 3:16)

Rev. Stinson wore many hats; he served in the US Army and he was one of the top executive chefs in the United States. He also sang with the group "The 4 Kings" of Steubenville. He prepared many fine dishes for a celebrity following which includes Sammy Davis Jr., Barry White, Aretha Franklin, and a host of others. He was highly regarded in his field and recognized through the ACF (American Culinary Federation), where he was awarded the Chef of the Year.

Rev. Willie F. Stinson was preceded in death by his loving parents, the late Will C. and Katie Frazier Stinson and his brother LaMarr Stinson.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children Renita Stinson- Lavender (Lorenzo- his special Son-in -Love) of Steubenville, Ohio; Dr. Willette Stinson of Charleston, WV; Michael Styles (Diane) of Hartford Connecticut; his step-son; Robert Robertson (Robert Robertson III and Tre'Lonnie Robertson) of Wheeling, WV; and the mother of his daughters, Evangelist Ruth Stinson who is a Woman of God, Faithful and Obedient unto God for what he said…

His Pride and Joy, Poppy's Boys: Tayari and Ja'Quan Lavender who was his heartbeat and living legacy. Everyone who knew him knew that he was so proud to be their Poppy. He'd always say to them, "Love you too".

He also leaves behind his beloved brothers, Leon and Floyd Stinson of Steubenville, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his everlasting love for his church family members that were the true meaning of "Agape Love" for this has truly been the house that Faith Built.

Friends will be received at Agape Baptist Church, 99 14th St., Wheeling, from 9:30 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018. The Rev. Jesse V. Bottoms, Jr. of  Beulah Baptist Church (Poughkeepsie, NY.) will officiate and  Rev. Dr. Vincent P. Oliver of New Calvary Baptist Church (Wilmington, DE.) will give the eulogy. Rev. Stinson will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Steubenville following his services. Arranged by Gregory-Martin Funeral Home (304) 797-1400.
